It is characterized by its distinctive blue head and neck, green body plumage, and red undertail coverts, which are typical of the Pionus genus. In the wild, Blue-headed Pionus parrots inhabit tropical and subtropical forests, forest edges, and semi-open woodland areas throughout Central and South America. They nest in tree cavities and are generally observed alone, in pairs, or in small groups.
