"Scientific Name: Psittacula krameri Native Range: Indian Subcontinent The Indian Ringneck Parakeet is a small to medium-sized parrot subspecies within the Psittacula krameri complex. This subspecies is characterized by a slender body, long tapered tail, and predominantly green plumage, though a wide range of color mutations exist in captivity. Indian Ringneck Parakeets are sexually dimorphic: mature males typically develop a distinct black and rose-colored neck ring, while females and juveniles lack the complete ring. In the wild, they inhabit forests, farmlands, savannas, and urban regions across the Indian subcontinent. At Parrot Stars, we prioritize education, welfare, and responsible parrot ownership to help ensure every bird finds and thrives in a forever home. Before taking home any parrot, we provide comprehensive guidance on proper caging and setup, positive reinforcement training, household safety, nutrition, and enrichment. Parrots in captivity are still wild animals with all their natural instincts. Your overall success and experience with any species of companion parrot is greatly impacted by positive reinforcement training. A parrot’s behavior reflects both the environment they live in and the training they receive. All of our hand-fed babies are hatched and raised in our own breeding facility and weaned onto a diverse, high-variety diet. Our parrots are never clipped and are fully flighted. Follow our Parrot Stars Podcast to learn all about our parrots, our purchase process, and our philosophy of parrot care."
