This Harlequin macaw is a young that came from a pair that I own and is hand raised. (The Mother is a Greenwing with the Father being a blue n gold. So if you know your macaws you know that a greenwing is the second largest macaw and the blue n gold is the fourth largest. The blue n gold male that I have is larger than any greenwing that I own. My vet calls him husky. The babies have been known to be really large compared to other harlequins.) This Female is almost weaned, I would say just a few more days and she'll be fully weaned. She has been eating on her own as well. Loves a lot of fresh fruits and veggies (just like her brother that's in the other post I put up.) Also enjoys different types of nuts, nutria berries and some pellets. At this age they will try just about anything. Her and the brother has been to the vet, at 3 weeks of age when I first started hand feeding and 3 other times just as a follow up and for blood-work. They are negative on all the test that she ran. The harlequin babies that I've raised from this pair for years have all been the absolute sweetest birds. So if you're looking for a laid back and affectionate large bird then this is the bird for you. This bird is also a good starter bird for someone that's never handled a large bird before. The bird here, sorry I didn't have more pictures. I'll post more later, She is the sweetest. Her and the brother will get excited when you walk in the room and can't wait to get out of their flight cage to come to you. She loves to run out of the cage up on my arm to my shoulder. All ready for you to walk around. I'm able to place my hand behind my head when I'm ready for her to get off of my shoulder and she'll step right up without any hesitation. Has never ever biting me, no aggression at all. They're good talkers, friendly, calm demeanor, strikingly beautiful markings, and have a rather amusing personalities. Can be referred as to being a joker or clown, which perfectly reflects it's personality. Like in this picture (I took them to the bay for the weekend. Travel great.) Before I took them out of their travel cage I caught them playing. She was on her back as she was biting and grabbing at him with her feet. Absolutely not in an aggressive state, But totally playing. I've seen a lot of my babies playing on their back like this. It's so cute to watch. I've even played with the birds like this and they'll roll over and you play with them like a puppy. They add no pressure when they play. Heck while I was at the bay with them the funniest thing happened I wished my husband had taking a video of it. It was time to pack up to leave and I was getting their travel cage ready to load them up. I was on my knees stretching in to place the floor padding in the cage. The birds were behind me on a stand and all of a sudden she jumping right on my lower back. I stood up and she was hanging onto the bottom of my shirt, upside down. I rocked back and forth, she absolutely loved it. Not wanting to get down as she was swinging back and forth stretching her wings out. We couldn't stop laughing. I didn't mean to write so much about the birds. But you can tell how much I love them and how they get amazing care. Looking for a loving, caring, forever home. Someone that will give her the time she thrives for and not cooped up in a cage. She will hang out on a large tree stand as well.
