Tame Male Black Headed Caique
I have a tame black headed Caique that is ready to go to a new home. Here is his story:
Diego came to us back in January 2017 paired up with another caique. On the first night that we received them, the two got into a pretty Rough fight which resulted in Diego loosing a toe and his toe nails on one foot. I was able to quickly get in the cage and separate the two from each other and we brought Diego inside.
Diego turned out to be the cutest cuddly little pet. Although he is missing a toe he can still get around normal and play as well. Diego fell in love with my kids and soon became bonded to my niece Lily. After being inside with us for several months Diego eventually became so bonded to one of my kids that he eventually didnt like me anymore. It made it difficult to keep him inside the house because of his behavior. For some reason it was just me he had issues with - nobody else (even though I saved him). After much debating and 2 other caiques entering our family we decided that it was in Diegos best interest to find another home where he can bond to someone.
Diego is best fit to go to a home that will be happy to have him bond to one person. Children in the home is probably ok as he loved my kids so much that he would protect them from me. Which became a problem as I am his main caretaker. Keep this in mind if you decide to take him on.
Diego has a loud call that caiques make which can be quite annoying. Especially if he wants your attention (just like all other birds). Having a large cage for him that you can separate in another room might be ideal if you cannot handle the call of a Caique.
Diego does know how to step up and LOVES head scratches. He will use his disabled foot to show you he wants you to scratch. He loves to snuggle and will find his way in your sweater if you let him. He was always gentle and sweet to my kids.
I don't think Diego would be fit to become a breeder. His disabled foot it would make it extremely difficult to breed with another bird. This is why we have decided to place Diego into a loving home.
I have gotten DNA paperwork on Diego that shows he is a Male as well as disease testing done to make sure he does not have PFBD (test came back negative).
Diego will come with his Rope Perch (which is critical for him to use because of his disability), Some food that he eats (Volkman Super Parrot & squrriel mix), His current toys, and waterbottles (he is water bottle trained)
A large travel/outdoor cage is available if you are local - I'd be willing to give with Diego. The cage is old and not the best shape but will work if you are still searching for a cage for him.
If shipping Diego I can only send him off with his Rope Perch as the airlines has a strict policy on weight limit.
Diego's Rehoming fee is $550
Shipping United Airlines is $100 (I will pay for the crate)
$100 + Crate/Cage
