Hi,

They didnt breed, they just mated.  Don't give them a nest.  I probably would keep them seperated also.

Hi there,

I was the one that didnt understand your question due to lack of info.  I assumed (silly me) that it was a "boo boo" that the birds were "breeding", which I am guessing what you mean is that your wife saw them mating?  I also didnt know that they had been together for 4 years.  I still wouldnt give them a nest box.  Im always happy to help, but I need more info than what you posted the first time...

benk518,

1. Birds don't breed by accident.

2. There is a difference between mating and breeding.

By calling it an accident, I assume you want to do the "responsible" thing and not let it take place.  When I say responsible, I am referring to the fact that many people frown upon mixing species but the controversy of hybrids is another topic.

If this is the case, I agree to separate them.   It's not worth the added stress on the birds from the hormones associated with this behavior.

If you give them a nest box, it is not an accident and that is your decision.

i have been breeding for more than 25 years and i would give them a box and see what happens. i have raised a few 'accidents' over the years. one of the prettiest birds were three little birds from a sun and blue crown conure.  another odd pair is a lady in ancharige, alaska that raises congo african grey/double yellow head hybrids from her pets and sells them for 2,500.00 a pop.

Maybe it is just me, but that is horrible....selling hybrids for a ton of money and calling them "accidents"???
