Do you have a plucker?  Even a chronic plucker?

Do you have birds that bite every single time?

Do you have birds that scream incessantly?

Do you have cage clingers?

Do you have the perfect bird with no behavioral problem?

Let's discuss these and try to find solutions for them.

Is there anyway I can teach Mingo, moluccan cockatoo, to stay on his cage unless invited down.  He likes to come down off his cage and throw things around.  He is still adjusting to us, we have had him for 2 weeks.  He is 10 years old and has had 4 homes in the past 1 1/2 years.  Once on the floor he seeks out my daughter with whom he likes to play chase and catch with.  They chase each other around the place, and throw toys back and forth to each other.  She doesn't mind playing with him, but sometimes wants to do other things.  How do we get Mingo used to going outside.  I plan to take him outside weather permitting.  Today was nice so we went out together for a few minutes.  He kind of sat in my lap talking to me, but was shaking.  And how about harnesses for tiels?  My daughter wants to take her cockatiel outside weather permitting.

hi!  herein lies a problem- esp. with Toos...remember --you've just adopted a 3 year old.  They remember, and they have habits just as we do.  It's going to take time, probably months before you can get him to be re-programmed to your household and your habits.  The Moluccans are very curious, as well as demanding if you haven't noticed.  But what they need the most is your love and attention - they crave it.

Once on the floor he seeks out my daughter with whom he likes to play chase and catch with.  They chase each other around the place, and throw toys back and forth to each other.  She doesn't mind playing with him, but sometimes wants to do other things.

She seems to be giving him the attention that he needs, and if this is done on a regular basis - he'll come to expect it as well.

I used to take my birds outside - but I don't anymore...unless you have a screened in porch - I wouldn't take the chance.  One beesting and the bird is gone, one mosquito bite, and you may have a case of West Nile - call me paranoid.  But unless you've experienced the loss of a huge bird like this - it's something you never get over.

And how about harnesses for tiels?  My daughter wants to take her cockatiel outside weather permitting.

hi!  screamer.... hmmm

Sounds like he's looking for attention....he needs a schedule, and needs to know what to expect from you.

I'd also get a tape/CD and play it for him -- maybe a cheapee player by his cage that will play bird sounds.  My birds LOVE this...

and it quiets them down every time.  They think there's new and other birds in the house.  I have the wild bird and amazon birds

on the CDs they just love it.

ps. do you have a mirror in the cage?

Hi, Well, sounds like the Terrible Towel will have to come out on this one, if you want to keep all your digits

They're going to need to trust you - are they adopted?  how old?  Take one out at a time, in the towel and pet them, and scratch their

head, neck and preen them, make it a habit, until you don't need the towel any longer.  Put one on the floor (after you've trimmed the feathers/nails). And let

it walk around for a minute or two.  Then try to pick it up...this usually works!

Rots o Ruck!

Hello! I am thinking of buying this amazon that is at the barn that I keep my horse at. He doesnt like many people, but he loves me. He will sit on my arm, and my shoulder, and loves me to scratch his head. There is just one problem, he wont step up, to get him on me I have to use this stick that the owners taught him to get onto, and then he will get on me. I would rather just put my hand up to him and have him step up, but he bites and screams like no other, then hides in his cage. Hes getting a little better because I play a certain ring on my phone and he adores it. Then he gets a little more friendly and comes to me, but never stepping up when I ask.

I have been working with him for about a month now, its getting better but I was wondering if you had any advice?

Also, they have named him PrettyBoy. Now, I want to get him sexed when I get him, if its a girl would the bird be confused with a name change? I mean I could just call him PrettyBoy, but its deffinently not the same lol.
