This is not an "issue", but rather something I am just interested in knowing. I have Caiques that have recently been set up in new cages. Last week, I misted them with water, which they loved, and they immediately began chewing their perches to shreds when I was done. They do this every time I spray them, especially the females. Why does this induce them to chew? Any bird psychologists out there?

| I once owned a male 'tiel who would chew the dowel rods once I replaced them from washing....only if they were wet. I'm not sure, but I'd guess that if you have a chewer (I'm so glad my finches aren't the chewing type...lol) that they would be encouraged to chew by the softness of the wood when it's wet.

You're right. The perches are soaked when I am done.
