After spending over 20 years raising birds and feeding everything recommended under the sun at times.  I developed my own opinion on how birds should be fed to be kept in the healthiest of conditions and needing far less vet care than other birds not fed in this fashion.

First of all, I believe in feeding a daily staple diet of pellets (I prefer Kaytee Exact Rainbow) with some dry Cheereo's on top.  In adjacent to that I like to supplement my birds with at least 75% human foods.

I feed fresh vegetables cut to the the size of the birds.  I like to mix corn, green beans, peas, carrots, brocholi and spinach in the mix.

I also make rice a roni for the birds.  I make pasta salads for the birds.  I make fruit salads for the birds.

I feed two dishes of human food per day and we also share part of our meals with the birds.

Whenever you feed soft foods to your bird, please do so in a seperate dish than it's pellets and always remove soft foods within an hour or so to decrease the possibility of bacteria forming in these foods and causing illness to your pet.

I find feeding my birds this way, not only helps their health but it also helps to prevent them from becoming bored and self-destructive.

You can make eating playful by sticking larger pieces of fruit and vegetables on a skewer type of hanging stick in their cages and it makes it a bit easier to clean up.
