My mated pair of tiels REFUSE to use nest box of any kind! They have already had a clutch this yr only one egg hatched and the baby didn't survive. They will sit on the eggs and take care of them but it drives me nuts to see the babies on a slippery cage floor, my last little one had spraddle legs and the stopped taking care of it after about 10 days ugh any suggestions I am thinking of taking away the eggs for the winter and try again in the summer/spring

hi!

what food do you have them on? what kind of nest box? what bedding are you using?  how old are they?

You may have an immature bird in the two.  But sounds like a nutritional thing.  Splay leg is not good -- put more bedding in...

or take the box out - and give them a few mos.

good luck!

add bedding to a corner of the cage theywant to use.

Well my eyes have seen the horror
Of the coming of the flood
I’ve driven deep the thorny crown
Into the soul of someone’s son
Still I’ll look you in the eye
’cause I’ve believed in things I’ve thought
And I’ll die without regret
For the wars I have fought

hi!  just checking in - how are you making out with them.

Typically, I've been telling folks - especially the folks that want to 'experiment' or just want to see tiels being hatched.  To not even bother...here in the south, it's not even worth raising them any longer.  Folks have flooded the market with them - and they start at $30/each - which is a shame.  These little birds have been so devalued, inbred, overbred and in some cases just die from stress or living conditions - the stories that people have written to us about are just horrid.

fyi,

Manon
