I have heard two different ways of dealing with a pet that is not being bred and need advice
one is to give them materials to nest with and tear apart until they lay the egg(s) and then remove the egg after two days,
Two - Do not give the bird anything to encourage nesting at all. but a pigeon breeder told me this might increase the chance of my bird becoming egg bound as she will try to not lay the egg until she has a "safe" place.
What is the best thing I can do to minimize the impact of her natural instint and cycles?

I would not give anything to encourage laying. However, if she does continue to lay I would rearrange her cage (toys, perches, etc.) If she is laying eggs, do not remove them. It would be best to let her sit on the eggs and remove them once she gets "bored" w/ them (or they are past normal hatching dates, start smelling, etc.). Otherwise she may continue to lay which can deplete her calcium.
