I am no exepert on birds, but we adopted a breeding pair of parakeets from a gentleman. So, now I have some questions -
1. When we got the birds, they had built a nest out of twigs, apparantly it had been in the cage for a few years! The male has since rebuilt the nest but we have noticed that there are horrible black beetles nesting in the nest with the birds. Is there any way of getting rid of them? Is it a good alternative to rather pull the nest down that they have built and put in a proper breeding box?The female has a small injury to her eye which is rather swollen which I suspect is maybe from getting caught on the twigs they have built with (bluegum twigs) -how can we treat her eye?

para girl,

Personally, I would take her to a vet first, then remove all nesting materials.  She doesn't need the added stress of babies if she is already injured.  Good luck.
