I have a bonded pair of African Greys.

I have just given them a nest box at the beginning of the month.
The female, is in the next box more and more often, she is brooding (no eggs) so has her feathers spread on her brood spot.

She has put nesting material in the box. Are the breeding?

Do you think they have already breed and she is waiting to lay the eggs?

I have breed birds before, but these two are my babies and I have never breed Africans before, so I am curious.

Do you think that she is going to lay soon, or do you think they haven't breed yet?

Thank you

It would be hard to say if they are actively breeding or not. She is showing some signs of "broody behavior". Have you seen them mating? Is the male feeding her? It's pretty quick since you just gave them a nest box but it could result in a stress clutch if you just aquired the pair. If it was me I would give them as much space as possible. Do not look into the nest box (I know it is tempting). Let them feel it is a secure place to lay their eggs. Watch for more signs of active mating and give them as much peace and quiet as possible.

Make sure they have adequate calcium and also a bit extra fat/protein would be beneficial to her. Disturb them as little as possible and let nature take it's course.

Good Luck to you,

Scott
