I'm trying to learn more about Bourke Parakeets. Are there any owners out there who would like to share their experiences with me? I'd love to have a quiet bird that's not DEMANDING. However, I'd like a bird that is happy to cuddle with me, hang out of my shoulder, that sort of thing. I would in a home office, so the quiet part is important, yet I don't want a bird who DOESN'T WANT to be with me. Please give me your input. Thanks. Pattysue

| Hi, I raise Bourkes and Splendids and have for many years. I have lots of info. on my blog: http://thesplendidbourkebirdblog.blogspot.com/ Or, contact me and we can chat. Bourkes are typically quiet birds and most active at dawn and dusk. Their songs are lovely and they wolf whistle naturally. They are easy keepers, who don't do a lot of chewing and are less likely to ruin their drinking water as many other varieties of birds do. However, they do like to bathe and are cute to watch. When tame, most will fly to you and some will nibble on you ... they aren't the clowns that Splendids are, but maybe that's why they're easier to keep and much cleaner! I chose to raise Bourkes because they are quiet. I currently have 7 pairs of Bourkes and two pairs of Splendids. As beautiful and entertaining as the Splendids are, those two pairs are more work than the 7 pairs of Bourkes! ;-) You can contact me at: rosie.birds@gmail.com
