I have 2 rescued birds a parakeet and lovebird who seem to get along really well and when i put them in a cage together they preen each other, would it be okay to have them in a cage together 24/7 ?

I had a sun conure and a cockatiel share a cage for many years. Just keep a good eye on them.

| When I was a kid, I had parakeets and lovebirds in a 8' flight and they did fine until I added nest boxes. The lovebirds turned into bullies. Before that, they ignored the other species. I would not recommend this, but past experiences are good for future decisions. Like packratt63 said, Just keep a good eye on them.

| Absolutely, if you see ANY signs of aggression - split them up. Otherwise, you can wake up the next morning and one or more could be gone. Some can be very cage-protective, and possesive about their surrounds -- (can you blame them)?

| Hi Jill, I never recommened putting 2 diff species together like that. Esp. lovvies, that can turn on a dime.... If you're home all the time, you can keep a good eye on them, if not, I'd split them up - but let them come out and play together... regards, Manon

Hello!
Lovebirds are usually aggressive towards other birds. It's good that they preen each other but I would supervise their activity in a cage. I don't recommend putting them together like that but if it works, then ok.
