I have a cockatoo that I recently (2 months ago) got custody of.  The previous owner actually found me somehow.  Anyway one of them  is 5 years old and is doing the chicken scratch.  Now this sounds odd, but she likes to hold onto a mans area with her beak and start scratching.  She also does this with my husbands sneaker after beating it up and throwing it around the room.  I have a lot of parrot experience, and at first I thought this was nesting.  I have not done the DNA test on her yet, because she has allot of issues (barely any feathers, and does not pluck).  So we have been to the vet quite a bit.  Does anyone know what this behavior is about?  She (I was told, without proof) does not shred anything, she is not interested in a nest box or basket.  She is very explorative and loves men.  She really doesn't want anything to do with me.  Which is fine, she has my husband and they are inseparable.

Also I got custody of her companion.  Again no idea if m/f.  She (again no proof) just sits on the cage and doesn't have much interest in anything other than chewing under her wing, which we are trying to correct.  She is very head shy.  If you try to give her love she slams her head into your chest or arm and closes her eyes.  Obviously abuse.  She is more interested in me.  Again, this is good.  She is very sweet and quiet.  We have gone through 5 different collars on her and she completely stops life.  She wont eat and doesn't drink very much.  I currently do not have the collar on her, please don't bash me about the collar.  She is watched carefully and I am currently trying a medication in her water.  It seems to be working, but I would really like to somehow get this collar on her so her wounds will heal completely.

Any suggestions would be great and will be tried if not already tried.

Hi! did ya get any answers as yet?

I would do a DNA -- if you have a male -- they're going to be a LITTLE more aggressive than the females - (on average). So you may want to get an answer there, to see what we're dealing with. I suspect it is a female......mine doesn that on occassion - nothing to worry about though.

***Can you send me some CLOSE up pics of the wounds, and more detail of what she's doing? Also, exactly what she's eating every day??? You're dealing with a very stressed out bird,

and your probably the 5th - 7th family - it happens all the time to Toos, and it just kills me every time I hear about these things, with the Toos.

Be well!
