I need some advice on my congos. They are a very prolific pair of breeders, but have broken the last 3 eggs she has layed. I do not know if it is him or her that is breaking the eggs. Any suggestions out there?

Hi there,

Pull the eggs as soon each is laid and replace with dummy eggs.   Ive raised Greys...sometimes thats easier said than done

Stacy, thanks for the reply. I actually did remove her last egg that was layed and I will remove the one she lays tomorrow. I think I will put them in the incubator and when the babies start pipping, I will put them back with the mother and pull the dummy eggs. Do you know why they would break their eggs? I do know the egg shells look weak (Calcium needed in diet) I hope by giving them calcium it will fix the problem, as I am thinking the eggs are weak and get broke accidently. What do you think?

Hi Kathy,

Yes, that could definetly be the problem.  When any of ours (Greys, Poi, keets, Parrotlets-the list goes on and on...) I always put Calcium Plus in their water.  Some folks put it on soft foods.  That supplement made a huge difference.   If the eggs are weak, they might be to thin and porous and might dry out in the incubator.  Hopefully all will work out well though
